WOW! that is all I can say..WOW!

I have rarely seen a speach that comes from the heart like this one.

A bit too lefty-secular-anti-religion-feminist for this part of the world.....don't think she was invited to the Arab Strategy Forum held in Dubai.

And check this out. Never thought anyone could say such things against Islam. OUCH! Double OUCH!

I wonder what the full tape had on it-surely the imam had some real rebuttal. Powerful words, though I think she may be too contraversial for many people in the Muslim world to publically agree with.

I'm not sure if I share the sentiments about the speach, yes powerful words. She must have idnetified with Khatoon. She has an Iranian/Afghani accent.
By religion what Khatoon did is a big sin, and where Sharia law is practiced thats the outcome. Sex outside of marriage is forbiden in all three religions, its not unique to Islam, it is a sin (doesn't matter what people practice these days). Yes being forced to marry at the any age is a sin, but you don't correct a sin with another one. You want sex--> you get married (in my religion) full stop.
The only thing I have trouble in all that is the fact that men get away with it, while women are held responsible, by religion both should be punished the same way. When thats the case things would be different on this side of the world.

What Wafa Sultan said (The 2nd Clip) is a complete nonsense though I agree with what she stated about Muslims (Radicals) find violence as a first resort and reaction toward problem. Sad but True

I've only looked at the 3rd video of the woman who refutes the notion of a clash of civilizations and I have to give a double WOW as you do! It's a clash of those who choose to remain ignorant and backwards with a real civilization that seeks answers and wisdom. It seems sometimes ludicrous to me that as the world makes advances like never before in history, a billion of its population is trapped in an archaic ideology that has successfully spread fear around the world among any who would dare to call a spade a spade. That sister in the video has, however, risen to the call.

I would, for example, criticize Christianity or any other religion in a heartbeat if any objectionable issue presented itself. But with Islam, it's like hold your tongue, lest their be any fanatic waiting to hack you. In this sense I see it as an especially barbaric ideology which propagates itself on the strength of brute intimidation.

@ Bruce:

I believe it depends on the mentality, whether you are criticizing Islam in front of a an old fashioned scholar or an educated open minded person. I personally do not find it an issue if somebody criticizes Islam, I do that myself. Now What I find ludicrous is the fact that everyone now is an Islamic critic. Reading about Islam once in a newspaper or over the net does not make one a critic. I can't criticize Christianity because I haven't researched Christianity. People should tell the difference between Islam as a religion and Islam as a practice, we, Muslim do know that fact, unfortunately most of the non-Muslim community do not.

LocalExpat, wake up! Why don’t you do a simple search on your choice of posts before posting? One thing you would’ve realized in this case is that there has been an endless debate raging on these topics, especially on the Wafa Sultan Al Jazeera interview (here is one example of it from Bahrain’s Mahmood’s Den.
The least you could’ve done is to link to some of this ongoing discussion to give the posts much needed depth and perspective and history. Your “finds” have been found a million times before, and it’s only a disservice to the blogging community reintroduce them again in a complete vacuum.

dredge,
who said I am claiming to have discovered something new to add to the blogging world??? I am just commenting on some things I found on the net.
AND this is my blog right? aren't i entitled to write about what I want on my blog? and maybe i don't want to link it to other websites! I can leave that up to you as you have done so :-)

I am not agreeing or disagreeing with it. I am just surprised and glad that she has the balls to say such things and her views are being aired!

@ restless in dubai: i don't think you have to be a scholar of islam to critizise what's being done in the name of islam. it's quite sufficient to know human and civil rights.
if the practice pf islam is in line with those rights: i don't have an issue with it at all. if it doesn't: i don't care for the religious rationale behind it. because there is no justification for violating those rights.
